The Phoenix Forum was created to start conversations amongst black women around our sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing. Black women are most at risk for many diseases and illnesses specifically related to our sexual and reproductive health. As a black woman I have personally noticed a lack of discourse regarding the protection of our sexual and mental health and have thus made it my mission to begin to talk and to shed light on the conversations already taking place.
This web-based forum gives black women a platform to discuss our body, mind, soul and spirit. It is a safe space to learn, share stories, access resources and most importantly, TALK.

The Phoenix is a greek mythical bird that obtains new life by rising above the ashes of its predecessor. The Phoenix represents the power within black women and the ability to regenerate and resurrect ourselves from the misrepresentations within American culture. It also represents the mission of this website. For black women everywhere to understand what has come before—our genealogy and family health history—we need to educate ourselves and then take the necessary steps to change the fate of our lives and those of generations to come. Through the Phoenix Forum we are taking hold of our future and by doing so, ushering in a more healthy, knowledgeable generation, aware of the past and hopeful for the future.
“When and where I enter...there the whole Negro race enters with me.”
-- Anna Julia Cooper
If we thought of our body as the source of mankind how different would we treat her? How would we treasure her, care for her, build her up, strengthen her and be kind to her? I have learned that I cannot figure this out on my own. We have to start these conversations with someone other than ourselves and pick up where many others have left off. Let's talk.
